New Sunkid Comfort-Connection in St. Anton am Arlberg
To date, the Ski resort of Rendl in St. Anton am Arlberg and the main ski resort of St. Anton have been linked to each other by means of a cost intensive shuttle service.
It was very important to Mr. Ing. Hannes Steinlechner of the Arlberger Bergbahnen (Mountain Railway Association of Arlberg) that there is a permanent and independent connection for the use of the clients of the ski resorts. This aim was achieved following an intensive planning phase in cooperation with the company Sunkid. This transport system consists of 2 Swiss-Cord lifts (a new type of rope lift) and a Sunkid Wonder carpet conveyor lift.
Starting in the village of St. Anton is a 92 m long Swiss-Cord lift, followed by a 42 m long conveyor lift, which overcomes the entire 5 m elevation difference. The final component is a 114 m long Swiss-Cord lift. The rest of the way to the lower station of the Rendl Mountain railway is carried out on foot, through the subway below the Arlberger Highway and followed by an approximately 100 m long horizontal ramp running alongside this road.
This new and comfortable solution usually carries 700 to 900 people per day; however on very busy days, up to 2,500 people have been counted (almost 50% of the total number of visitors to the ski resort of Rendl!) All three of the Sunkid installations are controlled from the same location by one of the employees of the Arlberger Bergbahnen.
