Sunkid in the new Broconland Snow Fun Zone

There’s a buzz in the air in the Lagorai / Castello Tesino ski area in Italy. With the completion of the Broconland project, the area has focussed itself on the specific demands and needs of families and children.

Located approximately 60 kilometres east of Trient, the resort lies in the very heart of the Trentino region and boasts one four-man chairlift and one drag lift.

The Broconland Snow Fun Zone

It’s fun all the way for big and small in the Broconland snow fun zone. Sunkid has installed a 141m Sunkid Wonder Carpet conveyor on one of the resort’s most stunning slopes which is used not only by skiers and snowboarders taking their first turns, but also by our guests looking to discover the thrills of snowtubing and tobogganing.

On top of that, Sunkid has installed another 189m Wonder Carpet conveyor on a west-facing slope in the resort whose gradient makes it ideal for snowboarders.  With its wide range of bouncy castles, slides and other play facilities as well as a Sunkid Rotondo ski and tubing carousel, the play area contained within the Broconland zone gives the little ones a chance to let off steam. Completing an impressive all-round package is the Chalet Heidi restaurant. Built this year, the restaurant offers seating for up to 600 guests.

Revolutionary 141m Sunkid Conveyor with Gallery

With the comfort of their guests uppermost in their mind, the management of the ski area decided on the installation of a 141m long, completely covered Sunkid conveyor. This conveyor can be used by guests both with and without skis and snowboards and also allows the transport of all the latest alternative winter sports equipment. The gallery not only protects guests from wind, cold and all types of precipitation, it also reduces massively the operation and maintenance requirements of the lift. For example, thanks to the gallery the lift operators no longer need to undertake time-consuming snow-clearing each time the conveyor is used.

The conveyor is equipped with the tried and tested Blue Eye endless conveyor surface and is driven by an 18.5 KW motor. These qualities give the conveyor a theoretical maximum transport capacity of 1 400 guests per hour.  The Sunkid gallery was developed five years ago in co-operation with the local authorities. The gallery continues to be built using the tried and tested modular construction and boasts an internal width of 1.8m while the height inside the tunnel totals 2.3m. This modular construction method means that the cover is exceptionally easy to transport, erect and store. The main skeleton of the gallery comprises an aluminium structure which is filled out with high-quality Plexiglas panels. The gallery offers 1.2m-wide openings on both sides at 1.8 metre intervals along the entire length of the cover. Both these openings along the side of the gallery as well as the entry and exit zones can be securely closed overnight with hard-wearing roll-down PVC sides.

189m Sunkid Wonder Carpet for the snowboard slope

A 189m Wonder Carpet conveyor has been installed on the snowboard piste, allowing snowboarders to be whisked quickly and safely back up the hill, towards the snowboard slope and fun park. At certain points, the conveyor has to overcome a gradient of up to 26%.

Head of the ski lift operation in the region, Massimo Broccato, comments:
“We have found that the Wonder Carpet is particularly popular with our snowboarding guests. Whereas in the past the snowboarders had to either walk back up the piste or use impractical drag-lifts, boarders in the Lagorai ski area can now simply hop onto the Wonder Carpet and let themselves be carried back up the mountain in complete comfort.“

Fun and Games for the Little Ones

The Broconland play area gives children a chance to run riot and let off steam. The area offers numerous bouncy castles, slides and other play facilities as well as a Sunkid Rotondo ski and tubing carousel. The entire play area is run by the lift operating company and its use if free of charge for all guests holding a valid ski pass.

Background and First Impressions

Head of the ski lift operation, Massimo Broccato, comments:
“Families, children and non-skiers have special requirements regarding on-the-mountain transport. Sunkid Wonder Carpet conveyors allow us to fulfil these additional needs to the very highest standard.  In the past, we have had very bad experiences with other conveyor manufacturers and this time we wanted a really high-quality product. The winter sports trade fairs in Innsbruck, Austria and Bolzano, Italy gave us the opportunity to discover Sunkid’s Wonder Carpet conveyor. Within our branch, Sunkid already has the reputation of being a reliable and trustworthy company. However, what was decisive in our choice of Sunkid was the professional service and high quality of the products“.  He continues: “Our initial impressions of the Sunkid Wonder Carpet are outstanding. We particularly value the professional yet friendly approach of those in charge. Both colleagues and guests are extremely satisfied“.
