The Zugspitz Arena Keeps its Finger on the Pulse with Sunkid
The ski area of Langes Resort Lermoos in Austria had plenty to shout about in the run-up to the start of the 2006/7 winter season.
The motto of NTC Parks is “always on the move, always up to date” and the facilities found in the NTC Sport Park in Lermoos more than live up to this claim. Guests can make the very most of the 4,000 m² park by trying out the latest snowsport trends including skifoxes, snowbikes, snowdecks, airboards and snow tubes.
However, conventional in-resort transport facilities such as traditional ski lifts are designed with only skiers and snowboarders in mind and are, therefore, of only limited use to those guests wishing to transport the new material required to practice these latest snowsports. That’s why the management of Langes Resorts decided to use the tried-and-tested Sunkid Wonder Carpet conveyor, a multifunctional transport logistics solution developed and perfected over the course of the past 10 years.
The new conveyor can transport not only skiers and snowboarders but also pedestrians, buggies, pushchairs as well as all of the very latest snowsport equipment.
The management of the NTC Park decided immediately to install three of these conveyors to bring their guests comfortably, rapidly and safely to the top of the park. The longest of the Wonder Carpets installed measures 72 m, is powered by an 11 kW drive motor and climb slopes with a gradient of up to 15 %. To guarantee guests an optimal level of comfort, it was decided to equip all three conveyors with a 60 cm-wide running surface.
The team at Langes Resorts decided to use chain technology since this option allows the facility to be moulded exactly around both concave and convex terrain sections. The conveyor is driven by cogwheels, thus eliminating any danger of the belt slipping and enabling the facility to ascend slopes with a gradient of up to 25%!
