Sunkid Installs the Longest Summer Tubing Facility in Germany!

The Rhön region in central Germany is now home to yet another new tourist attraction thanks to Sunkid.

This summer saw the installation of Germany’s longest summer tubing facility in the village of Schafhausen. Measuring a massive 94 metres, the tubing track offers guests a thrilling, fun-packed ride.

Guests taking on the new summer tubing facility in Schafhausen have the chance to experience the ultimate adrenaline kick! While the first part of the course is relatively flat, the middle section has an average gradient of around 20%, ensuring that guests build up a good head of steam coming into the final straight. The last metres comprise a banked corner and braking strips to bring guests to a safe, controlled stop at the end of the run.

To save guests the long and tiring uphill walk back to the top of the course, it was decided to install a Sunkid Wonder Carpet equipped with the tried and tested chain technology. Driven by an 11 kW motor, the conveyor transports guests quickly and safely to the top of the summer tubing facility. What’s more, the Sunkid chain technology means that the Wonder Carpet is easily able to deal with convex and concave terrain with a gradient of up to 25%.

It was also decided to install a Sunkid Rotondo carousel in Schafhausen to complete the comprehensive range of tubing facilities on offer and make the sport even more attractive to younger guests to the area. Tubes are attached to the arms of the Rotondo which, in turn, is surrounded by artificial tubing matting with sliding properties similar to snow. A different sort of tubing experience that is great fun for all the family!

Chairman of the local government authority, Manfred Beetz, commented: “This is yet another in a long list of attractions for tourists visiting the region! The area needs such landmarks to promote tourism in the Rhön region.” The project cost a total of €130,000 and comprised the design and installation of a 94-metre Sunkid summer tubing facility, a 75-metre Sunkid Wonder Carpet to transport guests back up to the top of the course, as well as a Sunkid Rotondo tubing carousel. The project was 75 percent financed by the Leader+ programme, an EU initiative promoting regional development in rural areas.
