Even More Tobogganing Fun in Ilmenau
Thanks to a New Sunkid Wonder Carpet!
It was back in 1989 that the toboggan run was built in the central German town of Ilmenau. Thanks to the fact that the run can be used all year round, the course has since developed into one of the region’s main tourist attractions. During the winter months, the run is iced and raced on using traditional toboggans; come the summer, wheels are attached to the blades of the toboggans, allowing them to be used on the ice-free surface. In the light of the facility’s popularity, the management of the toboggan centre agreed, in cooperation with the municipal authorities, to install a Sunkid Wonder Carpet on the final, steep section of the ascent to the top of the course, thereby improving the level of comfort offered to both tobogganers and spectators.
The project was complicated somewhat by the slanting terrain on which the conveyor had to be built. However, Sunkid’s team of experts carried out an initial topographical terrain analysis that enabled them to then develop the project with the help of AutoCAD. The centre decided to install a 48-metre long Wonder Carpet conveyor with the patented Sunkid Blue Eye running surface, a 750mm conveyor width and a 7.5 kW drive motor. These specifications give the facility a maximum transport capacity of 2000 tobogganers or pedestrians per hour, which means that the centre is now perfectly equipped for forthcoming competitions and events.
