Gulliver's Travels on the Sunkid conveyor
The Gulliver’s Kingdom amusement park in English Matlock Bath distinguishes itself above all by its numerous rides which are caringly incorporated in the lightly mountainous landscape.
As inventor of modern passenger conveyor systems with more than 2,500 reference installations in over 50 countries, Austria-based Sunkid was the most competent partner to assist in overcoming the steep section. Sunkid’s decades-long experience in transporting passengers in safety and comfort also outdoors reduced the planning phase to a minimum.
The target group of the park is young families with children between 2 and 13 years of age. While the kids who are fascinated with the many possibilities can effortlessly run from station to station, such climbs can be strenuous for the grown-ups. In a specific case, the ascent of 21% between the “Fantasy Terrace” and the “Western World” is especially steep. With the Sunkid passenger conveyor, parents pushing strollers or carrying their youngest offspring, older guests and those having difficulty walking can now overcome the 118 feet (36m) long climb effortlessly. The comfortable width of 2 feet (750mm), the highly skid-proof Rufftop surface and extremely easy use made the conveyor from Sunkid extremely popular with the visitors at Gulliver’s Kingdom from day one.
As soon as a passenger enters the boarding area, the conveyor is automatically activated and thus saves valuable energy. Thanks to the elaborate and proven technology which originally stems from the Alpine ski sector, common dirt, rain, leaves or snow have no effect on the conveyor. Due to the robust construction method and design, originally conceived for winter applications, the system can also be operated all year round without hesitation. The passenger conveyor is monitored by video from the Park Office and is also controlled from there.
On peak days, more than 2,000 visitors use the Sunkid passenger conveyor. “Visitors love the charm of our hilly terrain, however the steepness is rather burdensome for many. The Wonder Carpet has been well received by people and we receive much positive feedback. This means a great facility for families and older visitors," confirms Nick Phillips, owner of Gulliver's Theme Parks and appears visibly happy with the increased attractiveness of his leisure time park.
