Mountain Coaster 2.0 at the heart of Bernex Dent d'Oche's year-round concept
As a new year-round attraction and infrastructural response to the challenges of the change in Alpine tourism, the "Luge 4 Saison" went into operation in Bernex (France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region) in 2024. Embedded in the low-lying ski area near Lake Geneva, the modern Sunkids Mountain Coaster 2.0 facility combines sporty dynamism with a natural experience, appealing to families and active holidaymakers all year round.
After being transported up the mountain in comfort using the Sunkid mountain conveyor system, guests experience a varied ride: over a length of 650 meters, 93 meters in altitude are overcome at an average gradient of 14 percent. An unforgettable interplay of speed, driving dynamics and landscape impressions, where both families with children and adrenaline junkies get their money's worth. Various curve radii and inclinations as well as wave elements ("waves") create a playful "up and down" and rapid "back and forth". Towards the end of the ride, a giant gyro allows all passengers to experience the centrifugal forces on their own bodies - like a gentle centrifuge.
At the same time, the traffic circle located close to the valley station also acts as a visual highlight for all non-tobogganers. A memorable photo motif for the family album with the lettering "I LOVE BERNEX" placed directly underneath - as a permanent advertising space for the destination.
Special attention was paid to state-of-the-art technology: The integrated active driving assistance distance control increases safety and enables smooth operation with high route utilization. This is complemented by a sophisticated station concept with an exit conveyor and automatic parking. A total of 30 vehicles are available to ensure smooth operation on days with high visitor numbers.
The background to the investment in the Mountain Coaster is a long-term strategy of the municipality and the department of Haute-Savoie to expand tourism. In view of fluctuating snow reliability, the focus is on weather-independent offers. The year-round toboggan run is seen as a key element in diversifying and revitalizing the destination. It complements the existing offer and creates additional visitor incentives outside of the traditional winter season.
