Sunkid Year-Round Toboggan Run: A Highlight Attraction for All Ages
With Romania’s longest mountain coaster, Sinaia is sending a strong signal about the future of mountain tourism. The facility, built by Sunkid, is a key component of the strategy to position this historic mountain destination as an attractive year-round destination for families.
Sinaia is one of Romania’s best-known mountain destinations and has enjoyed an excellent reputation as a winter sports resort for decades. To further enhance its appeal outside the ski season, the operator, Transport Urban Sinaia S.R.L., invested in the new Sunkid Mountain Coaster. The facility, which opened on December 1, 2025, underscores the long-term strategy of offering guests a high-quality mountain experience regardless of the season.
With a run length of 2,157 meters and a vertical drop of 438 meters, the facility is Romania’s longest summer toboggan run—featuring 38 turns! A total of 65 Mountain Coaster sleds ensure a comfortable ride and maximum capacity utilization of the facility. Transport to the top is handled by the existing gondola lift, in whose cabins the sleds are transported on specially designed transport carts. A special technical highlight is the fully automated storage system at the upper station. In a building constructed specifically for this purpose, the sleds are stored in a space-saving manner and protected from the weather via a feeder track and multi-track parking rails with a shifting system. At the same time, the system automatically makes the sleds available for ongoing operations as needed. This ensures maximum availability and supports efficient facility operations—especially on days with high visitor traffic.
The project in Sinaia exemplifies how mountain destinations can strengthen their competitiveness with innovative year-round attractions while simultaneously responding to the challenges of increasingly shorter and less predictable winter seasons. With the new Mountain Coaster, Sinaia is consistently expanding its position as one of Romania’s leading year-round mountain destinations.
