The "forest toboggan run" is the latest highlight in the Haute-Savoie region (France)
The traditional French winter sports resort of La Clusaz has been investing heavily in the expansion of its year-round offerings for several years now. On April 8, 2026, the latest highlight was officially opened - the so-called "Luge des Bois" (forest toboggan run), a modern year-round toboggan run from Austrian leisure expert Sunkid.
The new run complements the existing range of attractions for families with children, which La Clusaz itself advertises as a "life-size adventure playground that can be used all year round" - with a bike park, giant swing, classic winter sports facilities and much more.
The memorable natural experience for all tobogganing guests begins even before they get on the toboggan. Thanks to the architectural integration of the ultra-modern valley building into the mountain, it blends in with its surroundings. It is also completely themed towards the "forest and its small and large inhabitants". Inside the station are the entry and exit areas, including an automatic exit conveyor belt and a storage traffic circle with space to store a total of 30 toboggans. The operating staff can also use a crane to remove individual vehicles from the lift for maintenance work.
The ascent with the help of a Sunkid mountain conveyor system then provides enjoyable panoramic views and emphasizes the natural integration of the entire facility. One of the customer's premises was to keep the impact on the landscape as low as possible when realizing the project in order to, in their own words, "preserve the soul of the mountain and at the same time look to the future".
After reaching the mountain station, the descent begins, which is almost 800 meters long and covers an altitude difference of around 140 meters. The most spectacular element of the route is not long in coming: after just a few seconds of riding, the 360-degree loop, which is over 10 meters high, offers either the best Alpine panorama or an adrenaline-charged experience of the G-forces on your own body, depending on the speed you choose. On the way down, you literally "glide between the fir trees", ride through a total of 17 curves of varying tightness or inclination as well as several straight full-throttle sections (at up to 40 km/h).
The brake levers on both sides provide comfortable grip and individual speed selection. The automatic speed reduction in certain areas of the track, the active ride assistance distance control and the new eddy current track end brake ensure maximum safety.
Two bridges lead over a "bike track" and a fun wave element rounds off the ride. After getting off, passengers can purchase their best or funniest photo point ride scene.
