Sunkid Equips Summer Toboggan Run in Carinthia with State-of-the-Art Technology
The summer toboggan run at Klippitztörl in the Austrian state of Carinthia has been delighting summer vacationers and day-trippers for over 20 years. The varied course, featuring 18 curves, bridges, and underpasses, offers maximum fun over a descent of nearly 1.4 kilometers—at a top speed of 40 km/h.
The facility, which opened in 2004, underwent a comprehensive modernization in the spring of 2026—with the goal of preserving this popular family attraction for the long term and bringing it up to modern standards. The focus was on replacing the existing vehicles with smart sleds from the current Sunkid Generation 2.0—for an improved riding experience, increased comfort, and the highest possible safety, even in changing weather conditions. In addition to these benefits, the customer also benefits from the “MOCO pro” app—which simplifies (digital) maintenance processes and software updates, and provides a customized system overview and live status display for all sleds.
The new magnetic end-of-track brake reliably ensures that all sleds come to a stop automatically, thereby increasing safety at the end of the descent. In addition, the new exit conveyor belt enhances passenger comfort and ensures the automatic transport of the sleds—without requiring additional staff.
At the same time, the transport infrastructure was also modernized: The Mountain Coaster’s sleds are now transported to the track’s starting point via the existing “Hohenwart” chairlift using a newly developed chair suspension system.
In an interview with 5min.at, municipal representative Marika Lagger-Pöllinger describes the toboggan run project at Klippitztörl as “a catalyst for regional economic growth”: “It is especially important for our communities and regions that recreational offerings are not only preserved but also developed in line with the times. The summer toboggan run at Klippitztörl is an experience that brings people together—families, children, teenagers, locals, and visitors. The modernization will strengthen a popular destination, create additional appeal beyond the winter season, and generate economic value for the region.”
