Themed Sunkid attraction fits perfectly into new indoor fantasy world
Since October 2025, Groenlo in the Netherlands has been home to the Bommelwereld - a new indoor theme park entirely dedicated to the comic book world of Marten Toonder and his characters "Olivier B. Bommel" and "Tom Poes". The park brings the classic stories to life in an indoor adventure world and lets visitors play, discover and experience them all year round.
One of the attractions in the Bommelwereld is a Sunkid Tower, which is called "De Zware Last" (The Heavy Load) in the park. The attraction was designed as a harbor crane and therefore fits in perfectly with the harbor and industrial theme of the fictional town of Rommeldam. Visitors can pull themselves up with the crane and enjoy the view of the bustling fantasy world all around.
Owner Edwin Bomers is fully satisfied with the Sunkid attraction: "Things are going well with the tower - quiet and relaxed. It has been very well received by the guests."
According to Bomers, the tower fits in perfectly with the park's concept, which focuses on interaction and experience: "It works very well as an attraction. You can see that this own mechanical work - i.e. that the children still have to do something themselves - is particularly fun."
Park Bommelwereld is characterized by its broad target group and year-round operation: "Bommel and Tom Poes are cultural heritage. Grandparents in particular come to us with their grandchildren. It's an indoor park. We have been open since October and we operate 365 days a year."
The park also attracts international visitors: "The IP ("Intellectual Property") of Bommel and Tom Poes is actually purely national, but in the first week, 30 percent of our guests had a foreign license plate - that's really very good."
With "De Zware Last", the Bommelwereld has gained an interactive and thematically strong attraction that fits in perfectly with the imaginative world of Rommeldam and the entire world of Olivier B. Bommel and Tom Poes. The Sunkid Tower combines play value, self-activity and theming.
