Five new Sunkid conveyor belts go into operation in Zermatt within two seasons
At the start of the winter season 24/25, Zermatt Bergbahnen AG completely redesigned the Sunnegga Wolli beginners' park - Borer Lift AG supplied four modern Sunkid Moving Carpets as safe and comfortable ascent aids. Based on the positive experience with these new installations and the close business relationship of more than 20 years, another 55-metre-long Moving Carpet will be delivered for the coming winter season.
The Wolli beginners' park is characterized not only by its sheltered and sunny location, but also by its unique practice facilities. The project to replace four of the five existing and aging conveyor belts with modern Type N systems from Sunkid started for Borer Lift AG in January 2024 and was successfully completed in October - including consulting, sales, planning, approval procedures, production, delivery, installation and commissioning.
"Particular attention had to be paid during planning to the ecologically sensitive area at Leisee at 2,200 meters above sea level, in which Wolli Park is embedded, as well as the seasonal construction and dismantling of the systems," emphasizes Pascal Frei, project manager at Borer Lift AG. "Simple (de)installation and space-saving storage are standard advantages of the "Type N" Moving Carpet generation. In addition, we were able to meet the customer's special request for two instead of four meter long mid sections for even easier handling of the components."
Another special feature of the four new systems - with total lengths (drive power) of 29 m (5.5 kW), 35 m (5.5 kW), 41 m (7.5 kW) and 65 m (11 kW) - is the ability to monitor them centrally via an external control point thanks to modern i-CONTROL electronics. Frei continues: "Operation via terminals at a central location is a gain in convenience and efficiency for the mountain cableways: less personnel work and less switching back and forth between the systems."
